Brazil’s World Cup campaign has been thrown into uncertainty following the latest injury setback involving superstar forward Neymar. The 34-year-old, the national team’s all-time top scorer, has sustained a grade two muscle injury in his calf and is now considered doubtful for the opening phase of the tournament in the United States. According to Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, the forward will require two to three weeks to recover, as confirmed by MRI results conducted during the national side’s pre-World Cup training camp near Rio de Janeiro.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Lasmar shared the diagnosis: “An MRI scan identified a grade two muscle injury… Our expectation is that he will be available in two to three weeks.” The injury means Neymar will miss at least two upcoming international friendlies — against Panama and Egypt — scheduled as part of Brazil’s final preparations. His participation in Brazil’s World Cup opener against Morocco on June 13 in Los Angeles remains uncertain, casting a shadow over the team’s chances in the group stage.
