Discussions are underway among farmers in North Dinajpur district following a new innovation. Recently, local farmers have started cultivating a special plant known as 'Meeth' spice in their courtyards or small spaces. The leaves of this locally produced plant are claimed to significantly enhance the flavor of dishes when used in cooking. As a result, the need to purchase spices from the market is reducing, leading to cost savings.
Local farmer Bipal Mondal shared that he has planted this spice on his rooftop. According to him, adding just a pinch of Meeth spice leaves to a dish makes it a superhit. He further mentioned that this plant requires minimal space, making it feasible for urban residents as well. Additionally, since it doesn’t need chemical fertilizers, it can be grown entirely organically.
