The Ernakulam Rural police, in a coordinated crackdown under the State government’s anti-drug campaign Operation Toofan, have arrested two migrant workers from West Bengal after seizing 12 kilograms of suspected ganja. The accused, identified as Rafiyul Mandal (21) and Parvesh Mandal (19), both residents of Murshidabad district in West Bengal, were apprehended in a joint operation conducted by the Ernakulam Rural District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force and the Angamaly police.
According to police sources, the accused allegedly procured the consignment of suspected ganja from Odisha. They travelled by train, switching between two services from West Bengal to Tamil Nadu and then onward to Kerala, ultimately arriving in Angamaly. Their journey involved multiple train hops, including a stop in Chennai, before they reached the Angamaly railway station in Ernakulam district. The interception took place following a tip-off received by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural), . During the operation, two shoulder bags carried by the accused were searched, and packets of suspected ganja were recovered from concealed compartments.
