In a coordinated effort spanning 64 days during the ongoing pilgrimage season, over 9 tonnes of plastic waste—including items collected directly from devotees—has been removed from the ecologically sensitive Vellingiri Hills near Coimbatore. The cleanup initiative was jointly executed by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, volunteers from the NGO Velliangiri Malai Pathukappu Amaippu, and a team from Recompose Recycling Private Limited. According to official records, a total of 9,110 kilograms of plastic waste was collected and processed.
