Karnataka: Siddaramaiah Resigns as Chief Minister, Awaits Governor’s Arrival

Karnataka witnessed a major political development on Thursday as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tendered his resignation from the top post. Siddaramaiah formally submitted his resignation to Thawar Chand Gehlot, the Governor of Karnataka, by handing it over to the Governor’s Secretary, Prabhu Shankar, at the Vidhana Soudha. Since the Governor was out of the state at the time, the resignation was accepted through the special secretary appointed by him. The Governor is expected to return to Bengaluru later in the evening. Siddaramaiah expressed confidence that the Governor would accept his resignation upon his return.
Addressing a press conference, Siddaramaiah stated that he has always followed the directives of the high command and resigned as soon as he received the instruction to do so. He emphasized that resignations must be accepted as per the Constitution, and the process of forming a new government would then begin. He assured that he would fully support the new government and expressed confidence that a new administration would be formed in accordance with the Constitution. Meanwhile, he claimed that his government enjoyed a majority in the Assembly.
