In a disturbing incident that has sparked widespread outrage, hundreds of rotting cow carcasses were found at a municipal landfill in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The gruesome discovery was captured on video and circulated on social media, prompting residents and cow protection groups to demand immediate action. The Jaisalmer Municipal Council (JMC) has since taken cognizance of the matter and terminated the local contractor's services, blacklisting him from participating in any future contracts.
According to a statement issued by the JMC, a video of dead animals in a dumping yard within the municipal council area went viral on social media on May 24, 2026. The council immediately took cognizance of the matter and found that the carcass bone contractor had been dumping the carcasses in the dumping yard instead of disposing of them at the designated site. The contractor was issued a notice with immediate effect, but he failed to respond to it or dispose of the dead animals. The JMC then disposed of the carcasses at a site identified by the council at its own level.
