Russian missile and drone strikes rocked multiple Ukrainian cities overnight on June 2, 2026, killing at least four people and injuring dozens, as the war that began over four years ago continues with no resolution in sight. The attacks targeted Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv, according to local officials, while Ukrainian drones struck a border region in Russia.
In the capital, Kyiv, the death toll from the overnight barrage rose to three, confirmed Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, in a Telegram post. AFP journalists reported multiple explosions in the city center, with residents rushing to air raid shelters clutching emergency bags and blankets. A large plume of smoke was seen rising from the city center as air defense systems activated. Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that 14 people were wounded in the strikes, fires broke out in several areas, and power was cut off in multiple districts. Tkachenko added that Russian forces were using ballistic missiles in the attack.
