The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is intensifying pressure on the Union government in support of the state’s farming community. The party staged a protest demanding that the Centre procure kharif paddy at the harvest stage, describing it as a major step toward resolving the long-standing procurement crisis facing farmers in the state. Party leaders say the agitation aims to push the Centre to ensure remunerative prices for farmers’ paddy and implement the promised Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The protest is being led by TRS State President K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KTR) and is expected to take a statewide form. Farmers have expressed disappointment that, despite earlier discussions between the state government and the Centre on raising support prices, fair prices have yet to materialise.
Kharif season is currently underway, and farmers are working hard to maximise output. Yet the absence of a fair procurement system is leaving them financially strained. The TRS has urged the Centre to recognise the issue and extend support to farmers, calling for immediate action.
