Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party is putting more pressure on the central government in support of the state's farmers. The party has staged a protest demanding that the Centre should procure the rice produced during the Yasangi (rabi) season. Party leaders say this protest is a big step towards addressing the procurement issues farmers in the state have been facing for years.
The protest programme will be held on a large scale under the leadership of TRS state president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR). The aim of the programme is to pressurise the central government on issues like ensuring fair prices for farmers' paddy and implementing the promised MSP (Minimum Support Price). Farmers are expressing their anguish that despite the state government holding discussions with the Centre for increasing support prices in the past, fair prices are not being implemented.
The Yasangi season is currently underway. Farmers are working hard to achieve high yields this season. However, they are facing financial troubles due to the lack of a fair procurement system for their paddy. TRS is demanding that the central government recognise this issue and support the farmers. Party leaders have called for immediate action from the Centre.
