Two TVK Activists Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Jobseeker with Laced Drink in Tamil Nadu

The Srivaikundam All Women Police have arrested two functionaries of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting a 33-year-old jobseeker from Srivaikundam in Thoothukudi district. The accused, identified as Balamurugan (29), a district youth wing organiser of TVK from Arumugamangalam near Eral, and Jayapaul (27), a TVK functionary from Ramanathapuram, were taken into judicial custody on Monday.
According to police sources, the victim approached Balamurugan after hearing about his involvement in job placement activities under the TVK banner. Trusting his promise to help her secure employment, she met him and Jayapaul at a hotel in Ervadi, Ramanathapuram district, two days prior to filing the complaint. Once there, the accused allegedly offered her a soft drink laced with a sedative drug, rendering her vulnerable. They then allegedly sexually assaulted her before she managed to escape.
