Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday accused the United States and Israel of attempting to “bring Iran to its knees” in retaliation for recent military and political setbacks suffered by Tehran. Speaking on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly—the country’s national legislature—Khamenei delivered a public address from Tehran, his first public appearance since March.
In his speech broadcast nationwide, Khamenei framed the perceived aggression from Washington and Tel Aviv as a coordinated effort to exploit Iran’s vulnerabilities following a series of defeats in proxy conflicts across the region, including in Syria, Iraq, and Gaza. He stated, “The enemies seek to humiliate the Islamic Republic by imposing pressure and exploiting our internal and external weaknesses,” adding that such attempts would ultimately fail.
