In Varanasi, fraudsters hacked the WhatsApp account of the son of renowned litterateur Kashinath Singh and demanded ₹2 lakh from the family. The incident came to light on Monday evening when the victim’s family received a message from their son’s WhatsApp number. The message stated that he was in an emergency and requested an immediate transfer of ₹2 lakh.
Suspicious, the family tried contacting the son directly, but his phone was switched off. They then filed a complaint at the Godaulia police station in Varanasi. The police have initiated an investigation and formed a special team to conduct a technical examination of the WhatsApp hacking.
Upon learning of the incident, Kashinath Singh spoke to the media, expressing concern for his son’s safety. He urged people to remain cautious of such scams and hoped the police would investigate the matter promptly.
