Chennai, June 12 — In a move aimed at strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday inaugurated a fleet of 40 new Mahindra Bolero vehicles for the state’s Department of Health and Public Welfare. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Secretariat in Chennai, where Stalin personally flagged off the vehicles, symbolically marking the beginning of enhanced mobility for healthcare workers across the state.
The newly inducted Bolero vehicles, worth a total of ₹2.90 crore, are intended to support various health initiatives, including outreach programs, disease surveillance, and emergency medical response. The vehicles will be deployed to strengthen the reach of primary health centers, sub-centers, and mobile health units, particularly in rural and remote areas where access to healthcare remains a challenge. Officials stated that the Boleros were selected for their ruggedness and suitability for both urban and rural terrains.
