On the very first day of summer, as temperatures soared in Hyderabad, a group of youngsters took it upon themselves to bring relief to commuters struggling in the heat. They distributed chilled vegetable-based drink, popularly known as ‘Dhanya’ or ‘Thampu Halu’, in earthen pots, offering respite to those braving the sun.
The initiative, which gained traction on social media, was spearheaded by a team of friends residing in the Saidaabad area of Hyderabad. They procured fresh vegetables, milk, sugar, and fruits from the local market and quickly prepared the refreshing beverage. Packed in clay pots, the drink was then handed out to commuters battling the heat. It is estimated that around 50 to 60 commuters benefited from this act of kindness.
Speaking about the initiative, Rahul Kumar, the leader of the youth group, said, “Our aim was to ensure that everyone walking in the heat gets access to a refreshing drink. Serving the community gives us immense satisfaction.” The gesture has received widespread appreciation from locals and social media users alike.
