Vaishali, Bihar – A court in Vaishali district, Bihar, has sentenced 85-year-old Deep Rai to three years in prison in a 34-year-old attempted murder case. Nine accused were named in the case, four of whom have since passed away. Following the court's verdict, among the five surviving accused, Deep Rai was given a three-year sentence as a special concession, while the other four were sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment each and fined ₹25,000.
The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari on Tuesday, June 2. The case pertains to an incident in the Jurawanpur police station area of Vaishali district in 1992, where a couple was shot at in a fatal attack. The victim’s family had noticed the accused spreading glass outside their home. When they protested, the accused, armed with weapons, stormed their house and opened indiscriminate fire. The couple sustained serious injuries in the attack.
