A senior government official in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district has filed a complaint accusing a ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator and his supporters of assaulting him, while the legislator has also lodged a counter-complaint alleging misbehavior by the official. The incident occurred on May 27, 2026, and has resulted in both parties being booked under separate First Information Reports (FIRs).
Tushar Manik, a Nayab (Deputy) Tehsildar posted in Rajapur Tehsil under Mainpat, alleged that Ramkumar Toppo, the BJP MLA representing the Sitapur constituency, assaulted him following a dispute over an official document. According to Manik, the incident began when a woman—allegedly a relative of the MLA—visited his office seeking a solvency certificate (shodh kshamta praman patra), a document required for parole-related formalities of prisoners. Manik stated that he informed the woman that the accompanying form was incomplete and that she needed to return with it properly filled. Though he waited until 5:00 PM, no one returned with the completed form.
