Bengaluru, May 28, 2026: In a heartfelt gesture of remembrance, Karnataka’s Minister for Forest, Ecology, and Environment, Eshwar Khandre, has directed officials to name a newborn hippopotamus calf at the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) after the late veterinarian Sameeksha Reddy. Sameeksha Reddy, aged 27, was a dedicated veterinary officer undergoing training when she tragically lost her life in April after sustaining severe injuries in an attack by a hippopotamus at the Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari in Shivamogga.
