A new study has revealed that while Indian employees have access to relatively generous leave policies, a significant majority are reluctant to utilise their full entitlements, despite experiencing high levels of burnout. The findings, published by NDTV, highlight a growing concern over workplace wellness in India, where mental health and work-life balance continue to be pressing issues.
The report indicates that more than 80% of Indian employees do not exhaust their annual leave, even though companies offer competitive leave packages. This trend persists despite widespread acknowledgment of burnout—a state of chronic physical and emotional exhaustion often caused by prolonged stress. The disconnect between leave entitlements and their actual usage suggests deeper cultural and professional challenges, including fear of falling behind at work, job insecurity, or workplace stigma around taking time off.
