In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, workers staged large-scale protests again on Friday, demanding minimum wages. Hundreds of workers took to the streets in the Dadanagar Industrial Area, registering their protest and completely disrupting traffic. Local authorities and police took swift action to regain control of the situation.
According to local sources, the protesters were primarily construction workers, factory employees, and laborers from the unorganized sector. They alleged that the wages they received were far below the standards set by the Minimum Wages Act. Representatives of labor unions stated that most workers in Kanpur’s industrial areas earn less than ₹10,000 per month, while the state government has set the minimum wage at ₹18,000 per month. This gap has been the primary cause of their outrage.
