Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has climbed to the second position among India’s busiest airports for domestic passenger traffic, surpassing Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in April 2026. According to the latest data released by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), KIA handled 31,78,826 domestic passengers during the month, compared to CSMIA’s 28,93,286. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport continued to lead with 49,29,982 domestic passengers.
The shift in rankings reflects a notable redistribution of domestic air traffic, partly influenced by the operations of the newly opened Navi Mumbai International Airport, which handled 5,24,594 domestic passengers in April. In the international segment, CSMIA maintained its second place with 11,53,949 passengers, while KIA handled 5,06,309. Delhi retained its top position in international traffic as well, serving 17,22,208 international passengers. Overall, Delhi led with 66,52,190 passengers (domestic and international combined), followed by Mumbai at 40,47,235 and KIA at 36,85,135. In terms of aircraft movements, KIA led with 20,718 domestic flights, ahead of Mumbai’s 19,281.
