Sirumugai police arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as M. Logesh, on Sunday for allegedly possessing counterfeit currency notes of ₹500 and ₹200 denominations. According to police sources, Logesh, a resident of K.N. Palayam road near Sathyamangalam in Erode district, was staying with his aunt in Sirumugai at the time of his arrest.
The case surfaced after Logesh’s aunt used one of the counterfeit notes to make a payment to a local milk vendor. The vendor, while attempting to deposit the currency along with other genuine notes in a bank’s cash deposit machine, noticed that the note was fake and was rejected. The milk vendor then alerted the Sirumugai police about the incident. Upon investigation, the police traced the counterfeit note back to Logesh’s aunt, who had unknowingly used it for the transaction.
