A shocking incident has surfaced from Mumbai, the commercial capital of Maharashtra. A video showing an employee spitting on a roti while preparing it at a hotel in the western suburb of Malad has gone viral on social media. Following the outrage, Mumbai Police swung into action, arresting the employee involved. An FIR has also been registered against the hotel owner under Sections 272 (adulteration of food) and 273 (sale of poisonous food) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Speaking to the media, a senior Mumbai Police officer revealed that the video was uploaded on a social media platform late Sunday night. It shows the employee applying saliva to his hands before making the roti. The clip triggered widespread anger among local residents and customers. Acting swiftly, the police arrested hotel employee Rahul Yadav (28), who, in his statement, admitted to spitting on his hands before preparing the roti.
An FIR has also been lodged against hotel owner Rakesh Sharma (42). According to the police, Sharma violated food safety standards, putting customers’ health at risk. The case is being investigated jointly by the Mumbai Police’s Food Safety Department and the local police station. Officials confirmed that the hotel’s license has been suspended and will only be reinstated after further investigation.
