Navi Mumbai, May 24: Residents of Navi Mumbai are in for some tough news. The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), which manages the city’s water supply, has decided to reduce water supply by 10% starting next week. The primary reason for this decision is the significant drop in water levels in the city’s reservoirs.
According to CIDCO officials, the water levels in key sources like the Western Ghats have declined due to reduced rainfall. While water levels are usually around 80% at this time of year, they have now dropped to just 60%. This has put immense pressure on the city’s water supply. CIDCO has stated that it has had to regulate water supply until the monsoon rains begin.
The 10% reduction in water supply will come into effect from May 28 and will apply to all areas of Navi Mumbai. This will particularly impact households and industries, altering both the timing and quantity of water supply. Though CIDCO has informed the public in advance, the decision is expected to cause inconvenience to many residents.
