Speculation is rife over a major overhaul in the Rajasthan Congress leadership. The recent visit of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and the conspicuous absence of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot from key meetings have fuelled fresh talk of a change at the top. Sources said Rahul Gandhi did not hold any separate meeting with Gehlot during his state tour, nor did Gehlot attend any of the gatherings. This has sparked fresh conjecture that a new face may soon take over as the president of the Pradesh Congress Committee.
Rajasthan Congress has seen several ups and downs in its political fortunes in recent months. While Gehlot has long been the face of the state unit, there is now talk within the party of bringing in new strategies and promoting younger leadership. His absence during Rahul Gandhi’s visit has only added to the speculation. Party sources said the top leadership is seriously considering the issue and a decision could be announced soon.
