The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step to enhance the security and monitoring of commercial vehicles. In Azamgarh district, all commercial vehicles must now be equipped with GPS tracking devices and panic buttons. Under this rule, no fitness certificate or permit will be issued to any commercial vehicle without this device. The Transport Department states that this will make it easier to monitor vehicles in real time and enable swift action in emergencies.
Transport Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh said that this system will be gradually implemented across the state. It will allow the police and Transport Department control rooms to directly monitor the status of vehicles. Through GPS tracking, not only can the vehicle’s location be tracked, but activities such as overspeeding, irregular routes, or prolonged stops can also be monitored.
